Another nature trip to Palawan

Three weeks from now, I’m heading back to Puerto Princesa in Palawan (considered as the country’s last frontier for its well-preserved natural wonders) for that much needed vacation. As early as now, I’ve been planning my trip’s 3-day itinerary.

First on the list is a visit to Honda Bay and nearby islands. Though the famous destination is only 20 minutes tricycle ride from the city, I never got the chance to visit the place due to time constraints. I was told the sea is crystal clear and the fine sand is powdery white. Visitors to the area may choose from a variety of activities such as snorkeling, fish feeding, picnic on the beach or island hopping.

As for me, I would probably lay on the sand, dip in the waters and just enjoy the scenery for the rest of my stay in the island. However, there’s one thing that bothers me. It’s the typhoon season so I am worried about the weather during the third week of September. Here’s hoping for sunshine so as not to spoil my vacation.

Next on the list is a stroll around the city proper and shopping spree on the side. During my visit to Palawan last April, we visited several handicraft shops which sells furnitures, souvenirs, home decors and gifts made of wood or capiz shells. I was particularly eyeing this handicraft (photo shown below) but since I was short of money then, I didn’t buy it. But, I promise myself to purchase this on my upcoming return.

If my luggage can still accommodate more, I’d probably buy myself one of these:

I now rarely see such decors inside a typical Filipino house. As for me, I am fond of wood carvings since we have a lot of these at home. Photo below is one of the oldest wood carvings we have at home. It was bought by my parents from Ifugao province during the 70s when they used to frequent the place.

We fondly call her the ‘Queen Negra’ (Black Queen) because she looks every inch a royalty. Isn’t she a beauty?

Palawan, here I come!
